Putting the Sustainable into Procurement
A Practical Guide for Law Firms
This guide tackles a major source of emissions and risk for law firms — the supply chain — offering practical steps to embed sustainability into procurement and supplier management.
Integrating ESG into procurement helps manage risk, meet stakeholder expectations, cut Scope 3 emissions, drive innovation, support ethical and diverse suppliers, and deliver value for clients and communities. Developed by over 20 firms in the Legal Sustainability Alliance’s Sustainable Procurement Working Group, the guide provides actions for beginner to advanced programmes across tendering, contracting, and data collection.
Please get in touch with any feedback or questions.
LSA Annual Report
The LSA Annual Report provides an overview the network in 2025, offering an insight into what the LSA can do for you, and how you can engage to maximise your impact on the climate and nature crisis.
It also offers us a chance to reflect on the year and understand how we can deliver better value for money and build the significant progress made.
Please download the report here and share it with your colleagues.
LSA Resources
Resource Library
The LSA provides members with a host of resources from practical toolkits, ‘how to guides’ and case studies. We encourage our members to share best practice as well as developing materials ourselves and sourcing material from academics, partners and experts. If you have a resource that you are willing to share with the membership please let us know.
Small Firm Hub
Small firms are a vital part of the legal sector’s response to the climate crisis, and sustainable practice can unlock real benefits — from cutting costs and improving efficiency to strengthening relationships with clients and employees. This dedicated hub, designed specifically for firms with 500 employees or fewer, brings together practical, achievable guidance tailored to the realities of smaller organisations.
The LSA Carbon Calculator
LSA members can access our free Carbon Calculator to measure and monitor emissions on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. The tool provides a clear headline footprint across key impact areas — including energy, water, waste, and travel — helping you understand where your emissions come from and where action will have the greatest effect.
The Climate Change Legal Knowledge Hub
Climate education is crucial for law firms, who play a central role in addressing climate change and climate risk through their work at the intersection of law, policy and regulation and the advice that they give clients.
To bridge the gap between current competencies and complex challenges, The Climate Change Legal Knowledge Hub has been developed by the LSA, Legal Charter 1.5 and NZLA. The platform collates resources covering a wide range of topics, including climate change science, policy approaches, legal issues, biodiversity and sustainable business practices.
