LSA Working Groups

The LSA has a number of Working Groups to support its work.  Firms who provide representatives on these Working Groups are indicated in the membership list.

Working Groups include:


Reporting Working Group

Purpose:  To guide both the process and the development of the associated tools provided by the LSA aimed at encouraging and supporting members to (1) measure and report their carbon footprint and (2) measure progress with meeting the LSA Principles

How achieved:

  • Annually review and agree changes to the LSA Carbon Reporting Portal prior to it being made available for use by LSA members
  • Review and sense-check the analysis carried out of the carbon footprint data reported by members and confirm any conclusions made using this data
  • Review and sense-check the conclusions drawn from an analysis of LSA members reports on progress with meeting the LSA Principles
  • Contribute to and comment on draft LSA Annual Report prior to sign off by LSA Leaders Group

Business Travel Working Group

Purpose: To guide and help develop a programme to engage and support LSA members to consider alternative means of business travel and adopt most sustainable options

How achieved:

  • Review adequacy of existing LSA support resources
  • Revise resources and update as required
  • Hosting seminars/workshops on the subject
  • Coordinate and help plan annual LSA Business Travel Challenge

Communications Working Group

Purpose:  To advise on LSA wider communications strategy and help develop communication content and collateral, including oversight of website and digital communications.

How achieved:

  • Review existing communication channels and content and advise on new or revised approaches
  • Regular assistance in developing and disseminating content for both website and other communication channels
  • Planning and advising on communication strategy
  • Devising and supporting programme of events for LSA

Mentoring Working Group

Purpose:  To develop an LSA Mentoring programme to provide support for newer/ smaller firms, and encourage more active engagement and participation

How achieved:

  • Review existing mentoring schemes  – provide examples of best practice
  • Assist in planning a programme of mentoring events to introduce idea, and then support Achill Management to develop a mentoring matching programme
  • Ongoing support and championing of mentoring as an LSA resource

IT Working Group

Purpose: To guide and help develop resources to enable IT to play a significant role in helping LSA members embed sustainability-oriented decision making, activities and best practices into their daily business activities.

How achieved:

  • Identify key challenges associated with LSA members’ IT services and share best practice in tackling these
  • Identify areas where IT can offer solutions and enable more sustainable operations within law firms and share ideas and best practice in implementing these
  • Provide advice and support to firms on efficient and sustainable data capture and storage associated with their sustainability programmes
