Developing a Science Based Targets approach
As the legal sector moves towards Net Zero, a major part of the transition is working towards robust and measurable targets. For many firms this means setting Science Based Targets, but where to start?
A Science Based Target is the best way to understand where your firm’s emissions are now and identify the steps needed to reduce. It is the only credible climate commitment that stands up to scrutiny. Aligning to climate science should form the basis of any net zero target. A greenhouse gas emissions target can be considered ‘science-based’ if the emissions reductions it requires are in line with keeping the global temperature increase well-below 2°C compared to pre-industrial temperatures.
A Science Based Target is one which has been evaluated and approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Carbon Intelligence have produced two helpful guides to get you started
An introduction to Carbon Intelligence (CI)
The LSA is working in partnership with Carbon Intelligence (CI) who can support LSA members with the in depth and detailed process of gathering the right information, developing appropriate targets and then submitting them to the SBTi.
The team at CI has deep experience of working with firms on their sustainability and energy reduction programmes. CI can help you establish your firm as a leader through setting and achieving ambitious carbon reduction targets, helping you move towards a net-zero carbon future in a way that will improve your brand reputation.
